Johannesburg is an official host city for the FIFA
Confederations Cup 2009 in June and to celebrate the occasion Johannesburg
Tourism Company is giving you the opportunity to win fantastic prizes.

2010 and Beyond - Mayoral Legacy Projects
The FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 and FIFA World Cup 2010
Tournaments are not about the few weeks that these tournaments will
be hosted in Joburg, but about the benefits that filter down
to the citizens of this great city in the process. These tournaments are only
two in the fantastic array of sporting events that the city has hosted over
the past few years, including Cricket World Cup matches, Rugby World Cup matches,
high profile tennis and golf tournaments and smaller tournaments in a variety
of other sporting disciplines. Below are some of the Mayoral Legacy
projects that the city has been embarked upon.
- Greening 52 under-developed soccer fields in Soweto and
other townships
- Planting 200 000 trees
- Rehabilitating the Klipspruit River in the Soweto area
- Upgrading the Diepkloof Hostel in Soweto
- Developing an Olympic sized swimming pool and gymnastics arena in Soweto
- Building the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani Soweto
- Installing street furniture in the inner city
- Building the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transport system
Joburg certainly has the mettle to host a
successful FIFA World Cup. Having hosted many big international
events already, one can be sure that the same will happen with the world cup.
